Description:
The San Juans range reminds us why the rocky mountains were named as they are. They cover over ten thousand square miles with much of the terrain higher than 10,000 feet! It covers some of the most remote and spectacular areas in the State including the Weminuche Wilderness area where within it one may still be able to retreat from civilization for weeks at a time. Avalanche danger can be high in the winter and summer climbs can be more difficult than in other ranges due to the quality of the rock.
