After hundreds of miles of the great planes, west bound travelers experience a pleasant change in scenery as the Front Range juts up out of the earth presenting an excellent first impression of the Rocky Mountains. The range divides the state in half extending from the Wyoming border to Pikes Peak near Colorado Springs. Most of Colorado's population lies just east of the Front Range in cities in and around Denver, Colorado Springs and Fort Collins making its 6 peaks the most climbed in the state. Today roads to the top of two Front Range Fourteener allows unwilling or unable people a chance to experience some of what the Rocky mountains have to offer. Those seeking solitude should look to the other ranges for satisfaction.
